چکیده
Fresh water is crucial for life, supporting human civilizations and ecosystems, its production one of the global issues. To cope with this issue, we evaluated performance cost a solar-powered direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) unit fresh in Karachi, Pakistan. The solar heating system (SWHS) was help advisor model (SAM) tool. evaluation DCMD performed by solving mathematical through numerical iterative method MATLAB software®. For SWHS, simulation results showed that highest average temperature 55.05 °C lowest 44.26 were achieved May December, respectively. capacity factor fraction SWHS found to be 27.9% 87%, An exponential increase from 11.4 kg/m2·h 23.23 permeate flux observed when increasing hot temperatures 44 56 °C. In proposed system, maximum 279.82 L/day produced minimum 146.83 January. On average, 217.66 levelized 23.01 USD/m3.

Solar thermal powered desalination: membrane versus distillation technologies
Multiple Effect Distillation (MED) is generally considered to be the desalination technology most suited to integration with concentrating solar thermal collectors on a medium to large scale. However the cost and energy requirement of Reverse Osmosis (RO) have fallen significantly in recent years, so that solar thermal powered RO deserves consideration. We compare commercial desalination proces...
متن کاملNanoparticle Separation Using Direct Contact Membrane Distillation and Its Fouling Study
Direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) which emerges as an alternative separation technology can effectively perform a colloidal separation process under thermal driven force. DCMD is capable of extracting pure water from aqueous solutions containing non-volatile nanoparticles through the hydrophobic microporous membrane when a vapour pressure difference was established across the membrane...
متن کاملA scaling mitigation approach during direct contact membrane distillation
Membrane scaling during the treatment of aqueous solutions containing sparingly soluble salts by direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) was investigated. The results reveal that membrane scaling caused by CaSO4 was more severe than that by CaCO3 or silicate. However, under the experimental condition used in this study and at feed and distillate temperature of 20 C and 40 C, respectively, C...
متن کاملBoron removal from aqueous solution by direct contact membrane distillation.
The removal of boron from aqueous solution by direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) was studied with self-prepared polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hollow fiber membranes in the present work. The effect of pH, boron concentration, temperature and salt concentration of the feed solution on the boron rejection was investigated. The experimental results indicated that boron rejection was less ...
متن کاملDirect Contact Membrane Distillation of Dairy Process Streams
Membrane distillation (MD) was applied for the concentration of a range of dairy streams, such as whole milk, skim milk and whey. MD of a pure lactose solution was also investigated. Direct contact MD (DCMD) mode experiments were carried out in continuous concentration mode, keeping the warm feed/retentate and cold permeate stream temperatures at 54 °C and 5 °C respectively. Performance in term...
